Chicago’s Central Camera rebuilds a year after civil unrest

122-year-old camera retailer Central Camera is still rebuilding a year after civil unrest in the streets of Chicago, according to the Chicago Tribune. Central Camera is still boarded up under its iconic neon sign but the company is open for business in a temporary space. Third-generation owner, Don Flesch, 73, hopes to reopen the longtime store on Wabash Avenue in the Loop by late August.

IPI opens two Print Refinery stores

IPI Member Network announced two members have become Print Refinery co-branded locations: Don’s Photo, Winnipeg, Canada, and Hite Photo, West Bloomfield, Mich. The two additions bring the total number of Print Refinery locations to nine.

Todd Zimmerman, a long-time graphic arts executive, has joined Electronics For Imaging, Inc. as its new vice president and general manager, Display Graphics. He comes to EFI from Fujifilm USA, where he spent a decade and a half in a variety of executive roles

Family history site MyHeritage has added photo repair to its image-enhancement toolset. In a blog post, the company announced the new feature “automatically fixes scratches, tears, holes, stains, and other damage on historical photos.”

HDRsoft announced a new version of its Photomatix Batch Plugin for Adobe Lightroom, adding the ability to automatically create 32-bit HDR images from bracketed sets, using the same imaging algorithms from Photomatix Pro.
