Leica Camera announces 47 MP Leica SL2, a successor to the Leica SL

Leica SL System

Leica Camera introduced the Leica SL2, a 47 MP full-frame mirrorless camera building on the success of its Leica SL. The Leica SL2 features all-metal construction, leather wrap, simplified three-button control layout and new in-body image stabilization.

The Leica SL2 has kept the same size than its predecessor and improved body design paired with increased IP54 certification durability and a new option to turn off noise reduction during long exposures allows for more hands-free shooting. A click wheel, a joystick and three strategically configurable buttons also contribute to a straightforward operation, the company says. The camera has two dedicated status menus for stills and video recording, so either shooting mode can be adjusted separately.

The SL2’s CMOS full-frame image sensor offers a color depth of 14 bits per RGB channel and a sensitivity of up to ISO 50,000. The camera body features a suspended sensor that adjusts its position to compensate for camera shake.

Featuring an L bayonet lens mount, the Leica SL2 is not only compatible with the ever-growing portfolio of SL-System lenses, but also with lenses of the TL-System and with the lenses of Leica’s M, S and R-Systems via adapter, providing more than 170 Leica lens options.

The Leica SL2 is available beginning November 21, 2019.
