Microsoft Pix adds AI feature to scan contacts

The excellent AI-enhanced camera app from Microsoft – Microsoft Pix – just got an interesting upgrade: A business-card feature for the iOS version makes it quick and easy to add contacts to not only an iPhone’s address book but also to the user’s LinkedIn account. (Microsoft owns LinkedIn.) Pix automatically detects the contact’s business card and offers to add the information.

According to a blog post:

“Pix is powered by AI to streamline and enhance the experience of taking a picture with a series of intelligent actions: recognizing the subject of a photo, inferring users’ intent and capturing the best quality picture,” said Josh Weisberg, Principal Program Manager at Microsoft Research in Redmond, Washington. “It’s the combination of both understanding and intelligently acting on a users’ intent that sets Pix apart. Today’s update works with LinkedIn to add yet another intelligent dimension to Pix’s capabilities.”

Evernote, the note-taking app, has had this business-card recognition feature for a long time as well.
