Albumstory SDK uses AI to Intelligently Cluster and Curate photos taken on smartphones, then automatically produces photobooks

24 September 2018, Cologne and Singapore: photobook.ai, developer of AI-powered Photobook Cluster-Curate-Create technology, announces the launch of the Albumstory AI-SDK at photokina 2018, Sept. 26-29, in Cologne, Germany.  Albumstory AI-SDK offers app developers and photo gift companies industry-leading imaging AI, computer vision and advanced face-detection, face-recognition and face-quality technologies for their mobile apps on both Android and iOS.  The Albumstory SDK is available for license individually. photobook.ai is also offering selective customers SDK-integration and white-label application development services.

Developer partners can choose which portions of the Albumstory AI-SDK to use, based on their own needs. A key distinction of the Albumstory AI-SDK is all the intelligent image processing takes place locally on the mobile device, independent of the internet and each module can work independently.

The Albumstory AI-SDK is organized into four major components:

• The Events Engine uses a proprietary Events Intelligence algorithm which creates Collections based on time and place, things and/or frequently occurring faces, hence automatically proposing meaningful stories worth curating.
• The Curation Engine contains the AI, semantic and computer vision algorithms to analyze the Collection.  It ranks images by its Quality, removes duplicates, ensures visual variety in the mix, detects faces, removes documents and identifies key images like those of food, coffee, landscapes, people, cats, dogs and babies.  Its breadth of vocabulary and understanding of the world is constantly expanding as it uses deep learning neural networks to continuously refine and learn to recognize often-captured moments by users.
• The Layout Engine uses intelligent design rules to create layouts to target page and photo dimensions. Working with the overall quality, visual variety scores and page grouping suggestions from the Curation Engine, the Layout Engine maximizes exposure for the curated shortlist of photos based on the target number of pages.  This engine can choose a single photo from a burst series, automatically place panoramas as a spread and avoids cropping faces regardless of layout. The Layout Engine can also be totally replaced by the auto-fill and templates of licensees whereby it can be asked to only return a suggested page-grouping list.
• iFace SDK is a premium advanced vision intelligence engine with face detection, face recognition and face quality algorithms. The iFace SDK, when used together with Curation and Events Engine supports Face Recognition and people grouping functions, like creating a Collection of just you and your kids, to choosing the cover-shot of a person from a series of portraits. The proprietary face-recognition technology works in shadows, with eyewear and with other partial occlusions.  When used alone, iFace SDK can also be deployed to a myriad of verticals like cruise ship photo souvenir operators, so guests don’t have to search for their own photos or wear RFID tags to identify themselves to roaming photographers to supporting a smart photo browsing interface for photo and wedding event sites.
