Unique Photo announces expanded educational programs for amateur and professional photographers

“The number of photos being taken today has exploded exponentially,” explained Alexander Sweetwood, president of Unique Photo. “More than one trillion photos will be taken this year. Behind all those images are a growing number of people who have become amateur photographers and have a desire to capture better pictures. The demand for our workshops and trips continues to grow.”

Unique University® is the highly-acclaimed education component of Unique Photo, New Jersey’s largest camera and video superstore. With over 2,000 square feet of learning space, including a state-of-the-art, multi-media presentation hall, Unique University offers a broad curriculum of hundreds of programs annually and hosts world-famous professionals like Lindsay Adler, Ruddy Roye, Alec Soth, Chris Burkard and Joe McNally. Approximately 10,000 photo hobbyists and professionals take advantage of Unique Photo’s programming every year.

Expanded Programming for 2018 includes:

Photography Travel Excursions

Adventure photographers will satisfy their desire for travel with international excursions led by photography and travel professionals to destinations such as the Arctic Circle to photograph the Northern Lights, Sicily in spring during Holy Week, and Namibia in Africa for spectacular wildlife and landscape photography. Closer to home in New Jersey, Unique University will host on-the-ground workshops at the legendary QuickChek Balloon Festival in Readington, Rutger’s University football games in Piscataway, and the Wolf Conservation Center in South Salem, N.Y.

Specialty Workshops

Learn how to fly drones, photograph the moon over New York City, or capture priceless pet portraits at specialty classes offered all year long.

Technical Classes

From basic introductory classes like “Understanding Your Camera” to more advanced offerings, Unique University helps educate on all facets of photography. Technical classes include such topics as basic DSLR photography, lighting techniques, macro photography, composition, editing and printing, Photoshop, wedding photography, HDR photography, how to use social media, digital organization, one-on-one instruction, and much more.

Unique Photo is also home to the Unique Photo Expo, New Jersey’s largest photography public trade show, coming on June 2- 4 to Unique Photo’s superstore in Fairfield, N.J. Consumers can take advantage of over 40 free photography workshops, demo and purchase the latest products from leading manufacturers, and take advantage of show-only sales.

Unique Photo was founded when Bernard and Harriet Sweetwood opened a small photographic supply outlet in Brooklyn, New York, in 1947. They went on to open more than 20 retail outlets in department stores across New Jersey before launching their first independent retail location in New Jersey — Hoboken Camera Center — in 1954. Still a family-owned business, Unique Photo has grown to become New Jersey’s largest retail camera store and center for photography education, with two locations: its flagship store in Fairfield and its recently opened location in Hoboken.

Unique Photo is New Jersey’s largest camera and video superstore offering the latest in photographic products and imaging technology. Its 50,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility in Fairfield, N.J. features a spacious photography retail store, multi-media learning center, professional photo lab, meeting space, gourmet coffee bar and WiFi lounge.
