American Color Imaging sold to Proviso Capital

Iowa’s American Color Imaging has been sold to Proviso Capital, a New York-based private equity firm. Terms weren’t disclosed. CEO Mark Lane told the Dead Pixels Society that he and his wife/partner, Lisa, will continue the business to ensure a smooth transition. He said Proviso Capital was selected as the acquirer, instead of another professional lab, because of concerns over consolidation.

Following is the notice the Lanes sent to customers:

After 38 incredible years, Lisa and I have made the heartfelt decision to begin the process of retiring.

Building and leading American Color Imaging has been one of the greatest honors of our lives. What started as a vision grew into something far more meaningful than a business — it became a community built on trust, craftsmanship, loyalty, and lasting relationships. You have been at the center of that journey from the very beginning.

With that in mind, we want to share an important update: ACI has been sold to Proviso Capital.

Lisa and I will remain involved for some time to ensure a smooth and thoughtful transition. We care deeply about this company, our staff, and every customer we serve, and we are committed to making this next chapter seamless.

With Proviso’s backing, ACI will continue to expand, innovate, and lead the industry — just as it always has. You will not see sweeping changes in staff or processes. The team you know and trust remains in place. The systems and standards that built ACI remain intact.

The answer is simple: our customers and our staff are far too important to risk consolidation. When labs buy labs, one almost always gets closed after consolidation. We did not want to see that happen. We were not willing to watch what we have all built together be dismantled. Choosing the right partner mattered deeply to us, and we believe this path protects ACI’s legacy, its people, and the service you depend on.
