Vintage Stock Photo Site Pivots – $25,000 of Vintage Stock Images Now Totally Free
TUCSON, Ariz., Feb. 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — One of the web’s premiere sources for royalty-free vintage stock photography has decided to go free – literally. For years, Vintage Stock Photos has offered a collection of thousands of vintage images from around the world, selling to creative designers in search of visuals that stand out against traditional stock photography. But now the site has decided to license the entire collection for free.
Chosen from an archive of over 150,000 color transparencies, the Vintage Stock Photos collection contains images of life and travel in the heart of the 20th century, including vintage Americana and world travel images, acquired from many different sources. Previously, the images were offered under a standard royalty-free license, priced from $6 to $18 per image. Now, the license cost has been eliminated and the images can be downloaded with the same license for free.
“We fell in love with these images because they stand out in a sea of sterile stock photos,” says Chance Agrella, founder of Vintage Stock Photos. “And we had success with them as a niche catalog, but offering the collection as free stock photos gives us motivation to keep building the image inventory for a wider audience.”
Vintage Stock Photos is an offshoot of Freerange Stock, a leading free stock photography site. Aligning the two business models makes sense, says Agrella. “We’d rather give away all our images and provide our users with a consistent free photo experience. It’s much more fun to get photos out there and enjoy what the design community can do with them.”
As part of the conversion to free stock photos, the entire image collection was manually reprocessed, improving the exposure, geometry and detail of the photos while keeping the vintage appeal.
