APS Imaging debuted The Photostory Linea Automatica VP is the world’s first fully automated cover-to-cover true lay-flat photobook binding machine. The eighth generation Automatica VP incorporates each stage of the book construction process to deliver fully-finished panorama albums up to 20 inches without additional labor involved, the company said. This robust machine binds up to 1,300 spreads per hour (SPH) and is compatible with all thicknesses of digital prints available today. Its incredible speed is accomplished by an in-house designed 8-axis system controlled by brushless motors combining precision with high performance.

The Linea Automatica VP incorporates advanced technologies for its high-speed production process including cover production, creasing, folding, insertion, heating, cooling, and finishing. It features an optional CM-CI robot capable of uniquely producing a wraparound cover to eliminate the time-intensive manual procedure. The system also includes artificial intelligence (AI) software, termed Cerebro Machinae, to perform multiple operations including diagnostics/performance analysis, stock management of consumables and parts, and operator tutorial and support, all manageable through smart devices.

A specially designed (L.I.T.) Lay-Flat Insert Technology paper was developed to work with the Linea Automatica. The FSC-approved paper is formulated for fast activation and drying and uses significantly less glue. L.I.T. is available in 100, 140, and 300 GSM.
