Google Photos has updated how it presents photos and memories with a new “Cinematic” effect. Cinematic photos use machine learning to predict the image’s depth and produces a simulated 3D representation (even if the original image doesn’t include depth information.

Cinematic photos will be automatically created for users of the most recent version of the Google Photos app.

Google Photos also rolled out updated collage designs earlier this month, which are populated and stylized using AI. The Memories function was also updated, which is expanding beyond returning older photos of people to include other favorite subjects – like sunsets – and favorite activities.
