London Drugs purchases local eight-store camera chain, McBain Camera

The Edmonton Journal reports McBain Camera, a 70-year-old fixture in British Columbia, has been purchased by another family-owned business, London Drugs. Terms weren’t disclosed. In the article, Neil McBain, former owner and general manager, stated the stores will continue to run independently and no staff changes were planned.

The article added London Drugs president and COO Clint Mahlman addedLondon Drugs hopes to keep the legacy of the McBain family going and improve the photography equipment offerings in both companies. London Drugs has a strong photofinishing presence, while McBain Camera offers more commercial and high-end products, so the two companies are complementary, he stated:

“Our goal is to strengthen what McBain’s already does well and to add things where we can. We want to make sure people in Alberta know this is going to make their photography experience even stronger.”
