CIPA: Cameras showing rebound

Total Shipments of DSC, 2023, 2024, and 2025, Jan-Oct

The year 2025 was a banner year for cameras. The Camera & Imaging Products Association (CIPA) released its latest data detailing global digital camera and lens shipments from Japanese manufacturers. After a slow August, shipments bounced back in September and continued in October, which is the most recent data available. October has been a peak month for shipments over the past few years.

From this trend, it’s clear to project 2025 will be the best year for cameras in years. And considering CIPA primarily covers Japan-based brands like Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm, Sony, OM Digital Solutions, Ricoh Imaging, and so on, the dataset doesn’t include other categories dominated by drones and action cameras, like DJI, Insta360, and GoPro, or even smartphone cameras.

One of the biggest drivers of increased October camera shipments was the rise in shipments of premium cameras with built-in lenses, like the Fujifilm X series and Ricoh compacts. CIPA lens manufacturers shipped 1,087,993 lenses in October, up from 1,030,534 in September and just 795,008 in August.
