FUJIFILM GFX100S digital camera

FUJIFILM North America Corp. introduced numerous cameras and lenses last week, including its fourth large-format mirrorless GFX camera. The announcements included two new cameras – FUJIFILM GFX100S digital camera and FUJIFILM X-E4 Mirrorless Camera – and three lenses – FUJINON GF80mmF1.7 R WR, FUJINON XF27mmF2.8 R WR Lens, and XF70-300mmF4-5.6 R LM OIS WR.

The Fujifilm GFX100S camera has a 102MP sensor – 1.7 times larger than a full-frame sensor – GFX100S also offers up to 6-stops*2 of five-axis in-body image stabilization (IBIS), incredibly fast and accurate autofocus, and world-renowned color reproduction to help image-makers push the limits of their creativity.

GFX100S is currently expected to be available in March 2021 at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $5,999.95 USD and $7,800 CDN.

Powered by Fujifilm’s high-performance quad-core X-Processor 4 CPU, GFX100S utilizes its 102MP, back-illuminated large format CMOS sensor providing a significant advantage over smaller sensors when it comes to producing images with incredibly shallow depth of field, fantastic dynamic range, faithful color reproduction, and outstanding, high-ISO performance, the company says.

The camera comes with 19 exclusive FUJIFILM Film Simulation modes, like Nostalgic Neg. Reminiscent of American New Color Photography, which emerged in the 1970s.

GFX100S features a newly designed IBIS system, which dramatically expands the capability of photographers to confidently create handheld images, the company says. Compared to the FUJIFILM GFX100, the IBIS mechanism inside of GFX100S is 20% smaller and 10% lighter. High-performance; Designed for Portability and the Elements

Measuring15cmx10.4cmx8.7cm, GFX100S’ compact body is comparable in size to many full-frame cameras. The GFX100S controls are familiar to GFX System photographers. The camera features a 3.2 inch LCD monitor on the rear and a 1.8 inch sub LCD monitor on its top plate, which can be customized to show key EXIF settings – like shutter speed, aperture, ISO sensitivity and exposure compensation – and set to display the status of key functions or available capacity on storage media.

In addition to being able to record 4K footage in a 16:9 aspect ratio, GFX100S also supports a 17:9 aspect ratio, frequently used in digital cinema. The most commonly used compression codecs, like H.264 and H.265 are also available.

FUJIFILM X-E4 mirrorless camera

FUJIFILM X-E4 mirrorless camera

FUJIFILM X-E4 digital camera is a new mirrorless rangefinder-style camera in the FUJIFILM X Series lineup. The lightweight, compact X-E4 features the same 26.1-megapixel, X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor, 0.02-sec autofocus, and color science that can be found in all the professional X Series cameras.

X-E4 is currently expected to be available in March 2021 at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $849.95 USD and $1,050 CDN. The camera will also be available as a kit that includes the FUJINON XF27mmF4 R WR lens at a manufacturer’s retail price of $1049.95 and $1,300 CDN.

The camera’s compact design is influenced by the design of classic film cameras. Both the front and rear grips are flat to give it a classic aesthetic, while the top plate of the camera body is carefully molded from magnesium to provide a polished, elevated finish. The top panel includes a shutter speed dial that can be set manually or switched to Program Mode (P) if fully automatic functionality is required.

Using Fujifilm’s state-of-the-art 26.1MP X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor and the high-speed image processing engine X-Processor 4 to provide incredibly fast autofocus, X-E4 uses phase-detection autofocus points across almost 100% of the sensor to acquire focus in as fast as 0.02 seconds. X-E4 also includes Fujifilm’s latest Face and Eye detection technology to track subjects accurately, even in luminance levels as low as -7.0EV where used with an attached FUJINON XF50mmF1.0 R WR lens.

A total of 18 film simulations are available with the X-E4, including Velvia, which is characterized by highly saturated colors and crisp gradation, and ETERNA Bleach Bypass.

FUJINON GF80mmF1.7 R WR Lens

FUJINON GF80mmF1.7 R WR

The FUJINON GF80mmF1.7 R WR Lens (GF80mmF1.7) is the first AF-capable F1.7 interchangeable lens for large-format camera systems, including FUJIFILM GFX System digital cameras, in March 2021. GF80mmF1.7 R WR is currently expected to be available in March 2021 at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $2,299.95 USD and $2,990 CDN.

GF80mmF1.7 R WR has a standard focal length of 80mm (a 35mm equivalent of 63mm) and features a maximum aperture of F1.7, which also makes it the fastest lens among Fujifilm’s G Mount lenses.

GF80mmF1.7 R WR features nine rounded diaphragm blades and is comprising 12 lens elements in nine groups, including one aspherical element and two, Super ED elements. Fujifilm’s ultra high-precision glass molding technology has been used on the two aspherical lens surfaces to produce a tolerance of 1/100,000th of a millimeter. This is five times more accurate than regular lens molding techniques can produce and serves to minimize the onion-ring effect that can how the lens handles the out-of-focus areas of an image, the company said.

GF80mmF1.7 features a DC motor that has enough torque to drive the focus group of six lens elements, including the aspherical element, to quickly deliver accurate and reliable autofocus, even when the lens is wide-open at F1.7 and when depth of field is extremely shallow. The lens also supports the Face / Eye AF function, which uses an advanced focusing algorithm to accurately acquire focus on a subject’s face or eyes even when they are moving within the frame.

FUJINON XF27mmF2.8 R WR Lens

FUJINON XF27mmF2.8 R WR Lens

The FUJINON XF27mmF2.8 R WR lens is a new interchangeable lens for FUJIFILM X Series digital cameras, with availability anticipated in March 2021. XF27mmF2.8 is currently expected to be available in March 2021 at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $399.95 USD and $520 CDN.

XF27mmF2.8 features an aperture ring with an F-stop scale so users can visually check and adjust their aperture setting without needing to look at the camera’s screen or through its viewfinder. The aperture ring also features the A (Auto) Position Lock, which locks the lens into the A-Position to prevent unintentional adjustments to the lens’ aperture while it is being used.

Weather-resistance has been applied at seven locations on the lens to protect against water and dust and allow it to fully operate in temperatures as low as 14°F (-10°C).

In addition to the standard lens cap, XF27mmF2.8 comes packaged with a dome-shaped lens hood (LH-XF27) and a hood cap (LHCP-27) to provide options to protect the lens, and to accommodate users that prefer using a low-profile hood over the lens caps because of its convenience.
