Monument launches Monument 2 privacy-centered photo storage device

Monument announced Monument 2, the next iteration of its privacy-focused smart photo-storage device. The desktop device automatically backs up and organizes photos and videos, using new applications for iOS, Android, Mac, PC and Linux. Monument 2 is now available for pre-orders on Kickstarter with an exclusive price of $149 for user-upgradable diskless and $299 for 1TB SSD model. Monument 2 will be shipped to its backers starting from May 2021.

Monument uses a powerful processor including a built-in Neural Processing Unit, to analyze content to recognize faces, scenery and other properties locally, on-device. The device also similarity detection, USB 3.0, dual-band WiFi, built-in SD card reader, TV-out and remote access capabilities, Monument 2 brings a cloud level experience … without a cloud service plan. Monument’s features include advanced duplicate and similarity detection which groups photos for a decluttered view, the company said.

Today, Monument has more than 20,000 users and was named as one of the Top 100 startups by Wired Magazine (UK) in 2017.
