Wedio launches pro camera subscription service

Wedio is a new Danish startup offering a pro camera subscription service, under the premise professional content creators will choose to rent equipment rather than buy it. Wedio says it has secured an investment from leading investors and the Startupbootcamp Media 2019 cohort, an accelerator program for media-based startups. The Wedio platform currently has more than 3,000 members and gear valued at more than €10 million. Wedio covers subscriptions with global shipping.

“Gear is a need to have instead of nice to have, and can easily cost over €20,000 to buy,” says Daniel Sand, co-founder of Wedio. “Right now, smaller production companies and freelancers are compromising on the quality of their productions because they can’t afford to buy the right gear.”

Sand adds Wedio is an option for content creators who can’t afford to deal with big gear rental companies, as well as insurance costs: “By gathering the local gear on a single platform, we have seen decreases in the rental price of over 40 percent, and because we have an insurance that covers all rentals, our members can feel safe when renting through our platform.”
