Japan-based photo products and imaging technology company Asukanet Co., Ltd. reported higher sales but a wider loss for the first quarter of its fiscal year ending April 2027, as increased costs pressured its photo book and funeral businesses.

For the three months ended July 31, 2026, consolidated sales increased 4.8% to ¥1.73 billion, from ¥1.65 billion a year earlier. Asukanet posted an operating loss of ¥65 million, however, compared with a ¥17 million loss last year. The net loss attributable to shareholders widened to ¥46 million from ¥6 million.

Asukanet’s photo book business generated sales of ¥863 million, up 7.5%. Its professional AsukaBook operation benefited from new customers following competitors’ withdrawal from the market and growth in business-process outsourcing services.

Consumer-facing MyBook and OEM sales declined. Higher raw-material costs, depreciation on new printing presses, relocation expenses and increased marketing spending reduced segment profit 20.3% to ¥112 million, the company said.

Asukanet maintained its full-year forecast, calling for sales of ¥7.86 billion, up 10.7%, and operating income of ¥460 million, up 17.4%. Net profit is projected to increase 7.6% to ¥315 million.
