Italy-based developer Bending Spoons confirmed it has laid off the entire 22-person staff of FiLMiC Inc., Seattle, Wash. after it acquired the company last year, according to the Verge and Layoffs.fyi. The flagship FiLMic Pro app is now in version 7 and is one of the most highly-rated mobile video editing apps. Bending Spoons, which also has the Splice video and Remini AI photo-editing apps, acquired FiLMiC in Sept. 22.

According to a statement provided to PetaPixel:

“The Filmic product has now been fully integrated into the Bending Spoons platform—development of the product will continue with a dedicated team at Bending Spoons focusing on it. Having worked alongside the original team since the acquisition, the new team possesses the necessary knowledge to ensure a seamless user experience.”

This isn’t the first time Bending Spoons followed the “acquire and shut-down” strategy, as it acquired leading note-taking company Evernote in November, 2022, and laid off most of its US- and- Chile-based employees.
