Blackmagic Design debuts URSA Cine 12K camera, Blackmagic PYXIX 6K box camera, and more

Blackmagic Design announced several new products at NAB 2024, including the URSA Cine 12K digital film camera with a brand new large format sensor; its first box-style digital film camera, the Blackmagic PYXIS 6K; DaVinci Resolve 19 with new AI tools and more than 100 feature updates, new DaVinci Resolve Micro Color Panel, and new live replay capabilities for live production and broadcast, including DaVinci Resolve Replay Editor hardware; a new range of SMPTE-2110 IP video products, including converters, video monitors, audio monitors and camera updates; and more.
Here some highlights:
URSA Cine 12K (US$14,995; available now) – This new model includes a new large format RGBW 36 x 24mm sensor with larger photo-sites for 16 stops of dynamic range, interchangeable PL, LPL and EF lens mounts, and industry-standard Lemo and Fischer connections. Blackmagic URSA Cine 12K comes with 8TB of high-performance storage built in and also includes high speed networking for media upload and syncing to Blackmagic Cloud.
URSA Cine features a new sensor designed for all resolutions from 4K to a 12K. The larger sensor builds on the technology of URSA Mini Pro 12K with larger photo-sites leading to an astounding 16 stops of dynamic range. The unique RGBW architecture provides equal amounts of red, green and blue pixels. This means it is optimized to deliver incredibly rich colors at all resolutions and provide the ultimate in image quality and flexibility.
URSA Cine is designed to meet the demands of any high-end production. The evenly weighted camera body is built with a robust magnesium alloy chassis and lightweight carbon fiber polycarbonate composite skin to help customers move quickly on set. Standard Lemo and Fischer connectors let customers control the camera remotely while providing power for lens motors and other accessories. Customers also get 12G‑SDI out, 10G Ethernet, USB-C, XLR audio and more.

Blackmagic PYXIS 6K(US$2,995; available in June) – A next-generation digital film camera that features a versatile box or cube design with a 36 x 24mm 6K sensor with 13 stops of dynamic range and dual CFexpress media recorders, all in a customizable body. Blackmagic PYXIS 6K is available in three models, with customers able to choose between L-Mount, PL or Locking EF lens mounts. Blackmagic PYXIS 6K will be available in June from Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide from US$2,995.
With multiple mounting points and accessory side plates, it’s easy to configure Blackmagic PYXIS into the camera customers need it to be. PYXIS’ compact body is made from precision CNC machined aerospace aluminum, which means it is lightweight yet very strong. Customers can easily mount it on a range of camera rigs such as cranes, gimbals or drones. In addition to the multiple 1/4″ and 3/8″ thread mounts on the top and bottom of the body, Blackmagic PYXIS has a range of side plates that further extend their ability to mount accessories such as handles, microphones or even SSDs. All this means customers can build the perfect camera for the any production that’s both rugged and reliable.
With 3 models, customers can choose between L-Mount, EF, or PL lenses, making Blackmagic PYXIS compatible with the largest range of cinema and photographic lenses in the world. The L-Mount model works with the latest full-frame lenses from Leica, Panasonic and Sigma but can also accommodate lens adapters, allowing customers to use a wide variety of new and vintage lenses. The EF model lets customers use high quality photographic lenses customers already own from DSLRs or even Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Cameras. Or the PL model lets customers work with professional cinema lenses from Zeiss, ARRI, Cooke and more without needing an adapter.
DaVinci Resolve 19 (public beta available now)– A major new update that adds new AI tools, over 100 feature upgrades such as IntelliTrack AI, Ultra NR noise reduction, ColorSlice six vector grading, film look creator FX, multi source editing, new multipoly rotoscoping tools, new Fairlight AI audio panning to video, ducker track FX and ambisonic surround sound plus new features in Blackmagic Cloud for large customers.
DaVinci Resolve 19 introduces new DaVinci Neural Engine AI tools and over 100 feature upgrades. Editors can work directly with transcribed audio to find speakers and edit timeline clips. Colorists can produce rich film-like tones with the ColorSlice six vector palette and produce cinematic images using the new film look creator effect which emulates photometric film processes. In Fairlight, the IntelliTrack AI can be used to track motion and automatically pan audio. VFX artists in Fusion have an expanded set of USD tools plus a new multipoly rotoscoping tool. The cut page has new broadcast replay tools for live multi-camera broadcast editing, playout and replay with speed control.
The new Organizations app in Blackmagic Cloud enables larger companies define a single organization or company. Now customers can create groups or teams and quickly share projects to an entire group rather than one by one. Customers can also manage storage access, share Presentations, and create a single sign on. It also lets customers buy or rent DaVinci Resolve Studio licenses. This makes it easier for companies to assign and manage the allocation of licenses within large groups. Licenses can be costed against specific projects and then removed when it’s complete.
