Status of $765 million Kodak loan deal put in question

With a single after-hours tweet on Friday, the federal agency working with Eastman Kodak Co. on a $765 million pharmaceutical deal appeared to put the whole project on hold, reports the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.  “On July 28, we signed a Letter of Interest with Eastman Kodak. Recent allegations of wrongdoing raise serious concerns. We will not proceed any further unless these allegations are cleared,” the U.S. International Development Finance Corp. wrote in the tweet posted at 5:49 p.m. Friday.

Western European Photo Printing Sector Returns to Value Growth

Jeremy Wills, senior analyst at Futuresource Consulting, writes at LinkedIn about the continued popularity of photo prints in Western Europe: “The continuing popularity of Photo Prints with the Millennials and Gen-Z, and the success of some more recent, app-based resellers contributed to a 1.3% rise in Photo Prints value in 2019 (a pivot from declines over many years up to 2019), which was coupled with Photobooks and Photo-Merchandise returning 1.8% and 7.4% value growth respectively.”

Popsa outlines development of photobook visualization tool

In a blog post, U.K. photo printer Popsa showed the process in which it designed a 3D preview of photobooks. This new feature allows customers to see their photobook design and to see the effect of different papers and coatings, prior to printing.

Visual 1st goes virtual in 2020

The virtual edition of the conference, held Oct. 14 & 15, 7:45 am -12:00 pm Pacific Time will have plenty of interactive opportunities during the sessions and breaks (private chats with fellow attendees, Q&A chat questions for speakers, live polls), but the group also partnered with Capsule to develop a solution for attendees to easily introduce themselves through a short video clip, tell why they’re attending, and share what types of partners they’re seeking to meet. VSCO debuted a new Kodachrome-inspired preset — KC25 — to the VSCO preset library. KC25 will be available to all VSCO users for free until Aug. 25 and can be permanently added to preset libraries with a VSCO membership subscription. The app also added speed and reverse editing tools for video.

Unsplash releases image dataset as open source

Unsplash is releasing for free the most complete high-quality open image dataset ever for anyone to use to further research in machine learning, image quality, search engines, and more. The company says the more than 2 million images, from more than 200,000 global photographers, includes 16GB of accompanying data.

Consumers are unaware of personal data loss remedies

Data loss can have serious implications for any person, especially for precious memories in the form of family photos or videos. According to the recent Data Recovery Survey 2020 conducted by CleverFiles, the creators of file recovery software Disk Drill, 63% of respondents have recently lost their personal digital data.

Moody’s rates Shutterfly B+

Moody’s Investors Service has completed a periodic review of the ratings of Shutterfly, LLC, and maintained the companies B3 rating. In June, Moody’s downgraded the company’s rating from B2 to B3, from June 20.

Kodak reports second-quarter 2020 loss

Eastman Kodak Co. reported second-quarter 2020 revenues of $213 million and a net loss of $5 million.

Kornit Digital reports second-quarter 2020 results

Kornit Digital Ltd., a leading provider of digital printing solutions for the global textile industry, today reported second-quarter revenue of $37.4 million, with a loss of $5.3 million. In other news, the company announced the acquisition of Custom Gateway, a provider of cloud software workflow.

GoPro announces second-quarter revenues up 12%

GoPro, Inc. announced financial results for its second quarter ended June 30, with revenue up 12% of $134 million. Sales from GoPro.com grew to 44%.
