Instagram introduces Reels, a feature for making short videos

Instagram Reels

Instagram debuted Instagram Reels, an integrated feature to create short viral videos. Users can record and edit 15-second multi-clip videos with audio, effects, and new creative tools (very similar to the notorious TikTok.) Videos can be shared on the users Feed or publicly through a new space in Explore.

To enable Reels, select the option at the bottom of the Instagram camera; the tools include:

  • Audio: Search for a song from the Instagram music library.
  • AR Effects: Select one of the many effects in the effect gallery.
  • Timer and Countdown: Set the timer to record any of your clips hands-free.
  • Align: Line up objects from your previous clip before recording your next to help create seamless transitions.
  • Speed: Choose to speed up or slow down part of the video or audio.

Reels can be recorded in a series of clips (one at a time), all at once, or using video uploads from your gallery.
