jAlbum makes web gallery software freely available

David Ekholm, the developer of popular web gallery software jAlbum, announced the move from a 30-day trial model, which it has used for 10 years, to a free offer of the software. The free version does carry some limitations, most notably a maximum of 24 images per gallery, but still being a competent web gallery maker with 100 visual expressions straight out of the box, the company said. The new business model involves offering optional web hosting and additional software functionality. jAlbum has been offering a cross platform tool for independent photo and video sharing since 2002. To date, jAlbum galleries are present on over 120 million web sites.

“By facilitating independent web photo sharing, we fill an important space in a market dominated by a few centralized software giants,” said David Ekholm, jAlbum founder and CEO. “With jAlbum you’re independent, even from us! That’s one reason why we’re still relevant, 20 years since the first release.”
