Genealogy site MyHeritage continues to roll out tools for users to enjoy their historical photos. The new free PhotoDater tool uses AI technology to estimate the year a photo was taken.

PhotoDater joins several tools in the MyHeritage toolbox, including:

MyHeritage Deep Nostalgia – a feature offering AI animation for historical photos. Later, animations added voice narration.
MyHeritage Photo Storyteller – a feature that enables users to easily record themselves or a family member describing the details of family photo, directly on photos within the gallery.
MyHeritage Photo Enhancer –  premium feature that takes old or blurry photos and increases their resolution so faces appear well defined.
MyHeritage In Color – a feature that automatically colorizes black-and-white photos.
Photo Discoveries – a feature that transforms family trees by automatically adding matching historical photos.

Private equity firm Francisco Partners, a leading global investment firm, completed the acquisition of MyHeritage in April, 2021.
