Dakis responds to HEIF format challenges
The Dead Pixels Society asked leading kiosk vendors to respond to the challenges posed by the new HEIF image-file format. Here is the response from Dakis:
Excellent question, as an iOS user myself running iOS beta for a few months now, I’ve had the chance to handle the HEIF files quite a bit and the dakis development team here has taken the challenge seriously. We wanted to offer a seamless experience to our customers and ensure ordering their prints is as simple as possible.
On iPhones and iPads ordering online, the dakis Online Photo Solutions already accept the files, automatically converting them to JPG on upload to ensure that the photos can go from the phone all the way to the printer without a hitch, ensuring that labs with legacy equipment can still print the new file type without any updates to their lab setup.
We also have an exciting development for our kiosk software which we’ll be launching simultaneously this weekend at the PRO convention in Orlando as well as the CANTREX – Nationwide convention in Montréal. The new feature called dakis Universal Browser to Kiosk (B2K) is an APPless wifi transfer which happens in the user’s browser. Using the wifi transfer will be the simplest and easiest way for consumers to transfer their HEIF files to a kiosk! The wifi transfer will not only work for iPhones & iPads, it’ll also work on Android devices, Macs, Windows PCs and Linux PCs.
