140-year-old paper manufacturer Felix Schoeller is idling up to 210 jobs at various locations, according to the German IGBCE trade union, specifying around 150 of the 700 employees at the paper mill in Weißenborn were affected, according to report by EUWID Pulp and Paper. The move is part of an on-going reorganization in response to competitive pressure and changing market conditions.
As part of the “Revinent” transformation, Schoeller had previously decided to close the paper mill in Penig at the end of 2025. The Penig plant, which Schoeller acquired in 1991, had been producing paper for 500 years.
The EUWID Pulp and Paper report stated Hans-Christoph Gallenkamp, CEO, informed employees about the planned steps at a staff meeting on Feb. 12. According to the press release, Gallenkamp is endeavoring to find socially acceptable solutions for the employees affected together with the workforce and works council.
