Futuresource Consulting recently published the annual Western Europe top-6 markets Photo Output (Printing) Market Reports (covering B2C (consumer-ordered) Photo Prints, Photobooks and Photo-Merchandise (photo calendars, cards, wall décor and gifts) for Benelux, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, UK).

According to a LinkedIn post from Jeremy Wills, “2022 market value is set to rise by nearly +10% on 2020 levels, and, by 2026, we expect market value to hit €3.44 billion, (up +22% from 2021).

There was a volume and value spike in 2020 when people were ‘locked down’ at home across the region, due to COVID and, with time on their hands, placed web-to-home (online/e-commerce) orders for photo items, particularly photobooks and wall décor. However, in 2021, (with fewer print-worthy images generated later in 2020 and in 2021, due to COVID-related restrictions), the market recorded a slight downfall in both volume and value. Photo Prints fared better than Photobooks and Photo-Merchandise in 2021 showing an uplift, as retail on-site photo ordering and printing services (ordered in in-store and sent to an off-site print servicer provider/photo lab for printing, or printed in store on minilab or instant print kiosk) were open again for at least some of the year, and some customers, especially in Germany, and in southern Europe, pivoted back to these services, from having temporarily ordered online in 2020 and early 2021.”
