HumanEyes partners with NTT DOCOMO for VR trials over 5G
5G test environment in Guam will feature real-world practical application of remotely training technicians in real time using Virtual Reality cameras over 5G
NEW YORK, April 04, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — HumanEyes Technologies, shaping the future of immersive imaging with the world’s most forward-thinking VR cameras and solutions, today announced it has partnered with NTT DOCOMO, INC., Japan’s largest mobile operator, to conduct extensive real-world trials over a 5G technical verification environment. Today’s announcement positions HumanEyes and its full lineup of Virtual Reality (VR) cameras and accessories as a global leader in creating stunning, high-quality visual assets that have been tested and verified for use over 5G networks.
DOCOMO unveiled its ‘DOCOMO 5G Open LabTM‘, a 5G technical verification environment, in Guam on March 27, 2019. DOCOMO 5G Open Lab provides a US-based 5G technical verification environment in Guam for testing and verifying the performance and interoperability of an array of technologies and applications supplied by DOCOMO partners. The environment will be expanded to include an outdoor 5G verification environment, enabling practical, real-world verification of 5G handsets and network hardware.
HumanEyes collaborates with DOCOMO as the ‘5G virtual-reality training’ Solution Partner for the trials. The utility company in Guam, the Guam Power Authority (GPA), will serve as the primary user for the testing. Like many highly technical organizations, the GPA has struggled with a gap in the technical skill level of well-trained engineers compared to new engineers. The practical, real-world application will be to leverage VR camera technology to capture and remotely share the technical knowledge of senior engineers with new technicians via 5G without the hassle and expense of onsite training.
“HumanEyes has an excellent reputation for producing some of the most advanced and innovative VR cameras in the world, and their engineering team in Israel is truly exceptional,” said Tetsunori Higashida, Senior Manager of Global Business Division for NTT DOCOMO. “Leveraging Virtual Reality cameras for training purposes is quickly emerging as a key application for the technology, making it a highly practical component of our trials. We very much look forward to collaborating with HumanEyes in this important endeavor.”
