Leica debuts 64MP Leica S3 medium-format DSLR with 4K video
Leica Camera announced the $18,995 Leica S3 medium-format DSLR, featuring a 64 MP ProFormat sensor and 4K resolution video recording. The new sensor offers a 71 percent increase in resolution from its predecessor, with a dynamic range of 15 f-stops and a maximum ISO sensitivity of 50000 to ensure photographers succeed in any light or environment, the company claims The S3’s ProFormat sensor dimensions of 30 x 45 mm matches the conventional 3:2 aspect ratio of 35 mm full-frame format, but with a 56-percent larger sensor area to enable a high capacity for large-scale printing and cropping heavily when needed while holding the integrity of every beautiful detail at the pixel level.
The Leica S3 records across the entire width of the sensor, fully capturing the characteristic medium format look, and has optional connectivity to external recorders and microphones.
The Leica Maestro II processor and a 2 GB buffer memory ensure a smooth workflow, essential for handling the data recorded by such a high megapixel sensor. The camera can work tethered shooting to a computer with either the standalone Leica Image Shuttle app or the Adobe Lightroom Classic plug-in – available for both Windows and MacOS. Additionally, a mobile workflow solution is also on tap with the S3’s native WLAN connectivity to sync up with the Leica FOTOS 2.0 app on iOS, iPadOS and Android..
The Leica S3 is now shipping and available for pre-order at Leica stores, boutiques, and dealers.
