Adobe releases the last version of updatable Lightroom

Adobe has finally put a dagger in the heart of user-owned desktop apps with the release of the last standalone, updateable version of Adobe Lightroom.

“The goal of this release is to provide perpetual customers additional camera raw support, lens profile support and address bugs that were introduced in previous releases of Lightroom,” the company said in a blog post. “You should only update to Lightroom 6.14 if you are currently holding a license to our perpetual product.

“Please note, there will be no additional updates after 6.14 for the perpetual, standalone version of Lightroom.” The blog post added legacy software users can keep up support for new cameras with the free Adobe DNG Converter.

There’s no question the company’s cloud-based subscription program is a financially sound decision for the company,  which reported record earnings last week: “Digital Media segment revenue was $5.01 billion, with Creative and Document Cloud achieving record annual revenue of $4.17 billion and $837 million, respectively. Digital Media ARR grew by $1.24 billion during the year,” the company said.
