Printful expands in Barcelona, expands in Australia

Printful – Barcelona

Throughout the next 18 months, Printful plans to invest 1 million euros into its Barcelona fulfillment center, which opened in May. The 19,350 square-foot facility is Printful’s sixth global fulfillment center and serves the Western European market. Europe is Printful’s second-largest market, and the company’s sales in Spain have tripled in the past year, the company says. Printful anticipates more growth, as the Spanish market currently has 23.6 million eCommerce customers, with an additional 5.6 million buyers estimated to be shopping online by 2021.

Since its opening, the facility has fulfilled more than 15,000 orders of its direct-to-garment and embroidery print-on-demand products. They’ve also recently added masks and luster posters with more to come. In late July the Barcelona facility will also start warehousing and fulfilling customers’ non-Printful products. The Warehousing and Fulfillment service allows customers to ship their products to a Printful fulfillment center where Printful will fulfill it under their brand.

The company will also add 40 jobs in the areas of production and fulfillment as well as an additional 20 jobs in software development and other IT roles. There are currently more than 20 people already working on Printful’s team in Barcelona. The company is actively hiring more recruits and is safely training all new employees with recommended social distancing practices.

In other Printful news, the company is partnering with two local businesses in Australia to offer print-on-demand products to its merchants in Australia and New Zealand. Printful initially started to explore fulfillment partners in Australia during the Covid-19 pandemic to help serve customers and has been testing fulfillment with the partner facilities since March.  Duty taxes will be eliminated on orders fulfilled in Australia and New Zealand from Printful’s Australian partner facilities. These orders will also no longer be affected by shifts in the exchange rate or conversion fees.

Printful launched the Australian dollar in early May. This means that Printful users can pay Printful in AUD to avoid foreign exchange fees.

Thanks to its two new local partners, Printful can now offer more locally-available products to its customers. One Australian partner will focus on direct-to-garment printing on products including men’s and women’s t-shirts and hoodies. The other partner will focus on items in the Home & Living category including posters and mugs, the company said.

Printful recently reached a 20 million printed product milestone and now has more than 1,000 employees worldwide. Compared to 2018, when Printful reached $77.4 million in revenue, in 2019, the company hit $116 million, according to Printful, which was founded in 2013.
